Walkthrough, Tips, and Tricks

Here are a few general tips and a walkthrough of the first four levels of The Lost Vikings to aid you in your quest to get the warriors home:

Tips & Tricks

  1. Baleog's arrow will shoot straight and true even while switching between Vikings - so long as you can track its progress.

  2. When in doubt, shoot everything with Baleog's flaming arrow.

  3. Use Olaf's floating shield to go down stairways while hugging the walls by pressing left or right. You might find some hidden secrets with this tactic.

  4. Using the proper items, every Viking can be deadly.

  5. To go down anti-gravity fields, charge bravely and use your momentum to carry you down.

  6. Sometimes you might not see the crane, but if you look closely, you will see the magnetic waves calling for Olaf's shield.

  7. Olaf's shield is stout and mighty, but falling acid can melt away anything.

  8. Olaf is strong enough to support a block that's bigger than himself…as well as another Viking on top of that!

First World - The Space Ship

Level 1:
This is a simple introductory level to give you an overview of the abilities each of the Vikings possesses and how they all work together. You begin with Erik the Swift in the bottom left corner of the screen. Have him jump over the force field and then climb the ladder on the right to reach the exit. Next, switch over to Baleog, who is on the right side of the level at the start. Simply walk through the yellow and black striped doors (they will open automatically and let you through) and then either destroy the alien with your bow from long range or approach closer to whack him with your sword. Climb down the ladder, and you now have two of the three Vikings to the exit. You must have all three to finish a level, however, so let's go get the last of the trio. Switch over to Olaf and have him climb down the ladder (making sure his shield is in its frontal position) and face the robotic gun firing at him. The lasers can't penetrate Olaf's shield; now it's a simple matter to walk him over to the exit to join his compadres. The level is now complete and the next stirring piece of dialogue will move the game forward to…

Level 2:
You can choose any of the three at the start of this level. Send your chosen champion to the right, through the automatic doors, and have him climb the first ladder to a platform with force fields generating to either side. Don't forget to grab the apple at the start point and check out the playing tips inside the question mark boxes before doing so. Once at the top of this ladder, deactivate the force fields by pushing the red button, and then have a nice little chat with the goofy red alien. These aliens are apparently friendly to Vikings trapped in outer space, and Aftiek and friends will be happy to give out advice to aid your quest.

Now you're going to have to switch to Baleog - if you are not already controlling him - and have him go through both of the automatic doors to the right. Slay the alien here, as well as the one at the top of the second ladder. At the top of this ladder, you'll find the bombs that Aftiek the Alien told you about. Now take all three Vikings over to the elevator at the far right of the screen, and send them down. There is a secret spot in the wall to the left, just after you start down, that has a piece of meat secreted inside.

At the bottom of the shaft you'll encounter the computer that Aftiek told you about, and just in case you didn't catch the earlier hint, a brother - or perhaps close cousin - of our good buddy Aftiek whispers it to you again. You actually have two choices here. You can use the bombs to destroy the computer as the friendly aliens suggest, but you can also bash the computer with Erik the Swift or shoot it with arrows from Baleog's bow until it is destroyed. This takes longer but you get to keep the bombs for later.

Grab the apple behind the now deactivated force field, and learn the name of your evil captors from Aftiek's look-alike. The Croutonians! Eating salad must be a serious no-no in the far reaches of space…

Now take all three Vikings and return to the elevator. Have them stop at the middle passageway that was previously blocked by force fields. Proceed until you've reached the red switch. Pull this and it activates a magnetic force that pushes the Vikings upward. Pretty entertaining little animations for these guys here. You can lead with either Baleog or Olaf since there is a pesky three-eyed alien up here. Remember that Olaf's shield makes him invulnerable to melee and projectile attacks. No matter which Viking you lead with, you'll still have to use Baleog to take out the alien, and then you'll need Olaf to defend with his shield against the gun firing at you. You can either destroy the gun with a bomb or ignore it and simply shepherd your guys in behind Olaf's shield. This is the formula for the rest of the level, but make sure you watch for the aliens and keep Baleog close to fight them.

Level 3:
Unless you used it on the computer, this is your first opportunity to employ Erik's bash ability. Get a running start at the wall at the bottom of the elevator shaft and let 'er rip. Baleog will need to push the red button with a well-placed arrow, and then you should send all three through the teleporter. Now it's flying-Viking time . Shift Olaf's shield so that it is over his head and jump out into the open air - he'll float down to grab the red key you'll need to advance. Talk to the red alien to learn about the evil leader of the Croutonians - Tomator - and his motivations for snagging three Norsemen away from their usual partying and pillaging. Enter the teleporter to return to the other Vikings, and then use the red key to open the door.

Have Baleog push the button with an arrow to deactivate the force field. Now Erik can bash the wall down. Congregate on the elevator and ride it down. You will need to have Olaf shift his shield so that Erik can jump off of it to reach the higher platform. Now jump quickly to the platform at the top left, avoiding the lasers of the robot guardian. Grab the gold key and then the Omega weapon (a nifty little item that will destroy all the enemies on the screen at once). Return the way you came and unlock the door with the gold key. Lead with Olaf ('Shields up, Scotty!') to deflect the enemy ray guns and then have Erik destroy all three robots on-screen using the Omega weapon. Stroll to the exit to progress to the final part of the First World.

Level 4:
Send Erik left and have him jump over to the ladder. Climb down, run to the right and leap the grinding, spinning spikes. Have Erik start the elevator up, then leap off to push the red button - shutting off the force field. If you don't leap off, you'll be a fried Viking. This now frees the other Vikings to ride the elevator down without any hassle. Have Baleog take out the two aliens, and then send both the warrior and his defender friend down to join Erik. Move Olaf to the forefront to block the oncoming laser blasts, then send Erik leaping over to claim the gold key. Let Baleog take care of the alien at the top of the ladder, then use the gold key to unlock the door. Take the teleporter up to the trickiest part of this first world.

Send Olaf first, with his shield ready to defend, and have him halt after the first magnetic bars. He should be standing directly beneath a pair of gravity boots - the item you'll need to safely navigate this section. Next bring Baleog to the same point and have him kill the robot that's patrolling the area. With the 'bot out of the way, you can now have Erik jump off of Olaf's shield to claim the boots. Make sure Erik activates the boots, then have him run through the other magnetic bars, leap over the two robots, and activate the switch that shuts off the magnetic pull for the other two Vikings. Now have Olaf and Baleog work together to destroy the robots, and send all three through the funky-looking portal to escape Tomator's ship and proceed to the Second World - Prehistoria.
